Professional telemark skier Erin Young, who also serves as a member of the Summit County School Board, had broken her femur during a fall doing urban rail tricks on her tele skis for a photo shoot in Denver. And while this may have discouraged some people, Young is no stranger to injuries and the rehabilitation process. In past years, she has separated her pelvis, had eight concussions and broke three vertebrae in her back.

It takes a serious commitment to your sport to leave your hometown of Denver, Colorado for the icy slopes and an elite ski academy in Holderness, New Hampshire. But that’s just what 17-year-old Maddie Baker (left) did. “People told me to I wasn’t going to like skiing back east,” she says. “But I’m lucky and get to travel to Colorado a lot.” The big mountain and park-and-pipe star picked up sponsorships Roxy, Poc Helmets, and Core Action Sports. Her goal is to make it on the U.S. Ski Team for freestyle.

Skateboarding Icon Cara-Beth Burnside and Champion Mimi Knoop to skate at Core Action Sports’ Winter Fashion Flurry. Burnside and Knoop will showcase their talent at Core Action Sports’ Winter Fashion Flurry, Oct. 12th at Mile High Station in downtown Denver. In addition to the pro skateboarding exhibition, the event also features a runway fashion show, athlete appearances, live music, entertainment and a silent auction benefiting breast cancer awareness. The festivities are open to the public, and the event is the first of its kind in Denver to gather the “who’s-who” of women’s action sports, with 1,000 attendees expected.
